The Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS), Pilani, is currently seeing a steady flow of traffic on its admission portal as the BITSAT 2026 registration remains open. Thousands of students across the country are finalizing their details to qualify for the prestigious entrance test. According to the official Schedule, the first session of the national-level exam is slated to take place in mid-April, offering a critical opportunity for students to secure their spot in one of India’s top technical institutions.

Important Registration Deadlines and Eligibility

For the 2026 cycle, BITS Pilani has maintained its rigorous standards for admission, requiring a specific academic Profile from all applicants. The BITSAT registration, which began on December 15, 2025, allows candidates to choose between appearing for Session 1, Session 2, or both. Those opting for both sessions can use their best score for the final merit list, a feature that provides significant flexibility to every Applicant during the high-pressure exam season.

  • Session 1 Deadline: The last date to submit the form is March 16, 2026, by 5:00 PM.
  • Academic Criteria: Candidates must have a minimum of 75% aggregate in PCM (Physics, Chemistry, Maths) or PCB (for Pharmacy).
  • Individual Subject Marks: At least 60% is required in each of the core subjects individually.
  • Passing Year: Only students appearing for Class 12 in 2026 or those who passed in 2025 are eligible.
  • English Proficiency: Proficiency in English remains a mandatory component of the Examination syllabus.

Application Process and Fee Structure

The BITSAT application is a purely digital process conducted through the official admissions website. BITS Pilani has emphasized that no third-party platforms are authorized to collect fees or data for the Examination. Each Applicant must ensure their digital Profile is accurate, as certain fields like name and date of birth cannot be modified after the initial submission.

  • Digital Enrollment: Students must register with a valid mobile number and email to receive their unique 8-digit application ID.
  • Document Upload: A recent passport-size photograph (50-100 KB) and signature (10-100 KB) in JPEG format are required.
  • Session Choice: Candidates can register for Session 1 now and opt for Session 2 later between April 20 and May 2, 2026.
  • Center Allotment: Applicants can provide three preferences for their preferred exam city.

Examination Pattern and Computer-Based Testing

The BITSAT remains unique among engineering tests due to its "bonus questions" feature and the speed-based nature of the Examination. The computer-based test is designed to evaluate a student's logical reasoning and English proficiency alongside their core scientific knowledge. Each Applicant must manage their time effectively to cover the 130 questions within the 180-minute window to unlock additional scoring opportunities.

  • Total Marks: The exam is out of 390 marks (+3 for correct, -1 for incorrect).
  • Question Distribution: Mathematics/Biology (40), Physics (30), Chemistry (30), Logical Reasoning (20), and English (10).
  • Bonus Questions: 12 additional questions become available only if a student completes the initial 130 before the time runs out.
  • Score Availability: Candidates can see their unofficial scores on the screen immediately after submitting the test.

Conclusion

As the March 16 deadline approaches, BITS Pilani urges all students to complete their BITSAT registration well in advance to avoid potential server delays. By adhering to the established Schedule, students can ensure they have a verified Profile ready for the April testing window. With the institute’s reputation for excellence, the 2026 session is expected to be as competitive as ever, making early and accurate filing of the form essential for all prospective engineers.
