In a significant update for postgraduate medical aspirants, the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has released a crucial revised seat matrix for the NEET PG 2025 Round 2 Counselling process. The revision comes after a temporary halt earlier this week, initiated to allow participating institutions time to correct and reconcile their submitted seat data, ensuring accuracy for final seat allotment.

The notification confirmed that the window for choice filling and locking resumed and closed sharply at 1:00 PM IST today, December 13, 2025. Candidates who participated were strongly advised to re-verify their choices against the newly published seat matrix, as any discrepancies raised after today’s processing deadline will not be entertained by the MCC.

Key Changes to the Round 2 Seat Matrix

The MCC implemented three major categories of changes to the seat matrix, which affects hundreds of available seats across various programs:

  1. Resignation/Withdrawal of Seats: A total of 540 seats were formally resigned or withdrawn from the Round 2 counselling process. The largest impact was seen in core branches, with M.D. (General Medicine) seeing a withdrawal of 54 seats and M.D. (Obstetrics and Gynaecology)/MS (OBGY) a withdrawal of 60 seats.
  2. Removal of Duplicate Seats: The MCC identified and removed 117 duplicate seats that were contributed erroneously by colleges in the system. M.S. (General Surgery) saw 16 duplicate seats removed, while M.D. (General Medicine) had 13 removed.
  3. AFMS Quota Changes: A quota change was implemented for 40 seats as requested by the Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) authorities, affecting specializations like Anaesthesiology, General Medicine, and General Surgery.

Aspirants must understand that these revisions directly impact the available pool of seats and subsequent cut-offs for the current round.

Action Required for Aspirants

As the choice-locking deadline has now passed, all participating candidates who successfully locked their choices based on the revised matrix should now await the provisional seat allotment result.
