The National Medical Commission (NMC) has granted permission for the new Gayathri Vidhya Parishad Institute of Health Care & Medical Technology in Visakhapatnam, adding 200 MBBS seats to Andhra Pradesh's quota. This addition impacts the ongoing MBBS Phase-II counselling for 2025-26. Visit: https://www.nmc.org.in/

The medical education landscape in Andhra Pradesh has expanded significantly with the National Medical Commission (NMC) granting permission to establish one more medical college. This new institution, the Gayathri Vidhya Parishad Institute of Health Care & Medical Technology located in Visakhapatnam, has been sanctioned an intake of 200 MBBS seats. This addition is a huge positive for medical aspirants from the region seeking a coveted undergraduate medical seat.

The Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences (NTRUHS), Andhra Pradesh, promptly issued a revised notification regarding the MBBS admissions under the Competent Authority Quota for the 2025-26 academic year to include these new seats.

Impact on Admissions and Seat Distribution

Out of the newly sanctioned 200 seats at the Gayathri Vidhya Parishad Institute of Health Care & Medical Technology:

  • 100 seats have been made available under the Competent Authority (Convener) Quota in the current phase of counselling. The remaining seats typically fall under the Management or NRI Quota.

This timely inclusion ensures that the benefits of the new college are immediately passed on to the students participating in the ongoing counselling process.

Phase-II Counselling and Web Options

The notification from NTRUHS concerning the new seat addition directly coincides with the ongoing Phase-II web option entry process.

University Fee PaymentRs. 10,600/- for candidates receiving a fresh allotment in Phase II.

Candidates who were allotted a seat in Phase-I and have already paid the university fee are exempt from paying it again. However, if a candidate is allotted a seat in Phase-II, they must report to the allotted college within the stipulated schedule, complete the payment of the university fee (Rs 10,600/-), submit the required tuition fee, and verify all original certificates. Failure to complete this process will lead to the forfeiture of the seat and ineligibility for subsequent counselling phases.

Continued Seat Expansion in Andhra Pradesh

This is not an isolated development; Andhra Pradesh has been actively working on increasing its MBBS seat capacity. In the period following the Phase-I counselling alone, the NMC permitted the following seat enhancements at existing colleges:

  • Government Medical College, Ongole: Seats increased from 120 to 150 (an addition of 30 seats).
  • Santhiram Medical College, Nandyala: Seats increased from 150 to 200 (an addition of 50 seats).
  • The new establishment of Anna Gowri Medical College & Hospital was also permitted with 100 seats after Phase-I.

The total cumulative increase in MBBS seats across new colleges and enhancements in existing ones provides significant relief to NEET-qualified aspirants and contributes substantially to strengthening the healthcare infrastructure in Andhra Pradesh.
