Interested candidates can submit their applications through the official admission portal at admissions.nid.edu. The last date to complete the online application process is October 1, 2026, by 11:59 PM IST. NID has also made the detailed PhD Admissions Handbook 2027 available on the admission portal. Candidates are advised to read the handbook carefully before applying. The doctoral programme is open to applicants from teaching and professional streams of allied design disciplines and offers both practice-led and theory-led research modes. 

NID PhD 2027 Programme Structure

Candidates may apply under either the full-time or the part-time track. Each track carries a fixed duration with a formal extension option. The choice must be declared at the time of application on the portal.

Part-time applicants who are currently in employment must submit a No Objection Certificate from their employer. This document is mandatory at the application stage. It must be uploaded along with the online form.

Financial Support and Fellowship

Financial support on a pro-rata basis is available only to selected full-time doctoral candidates, subject to the discretion of the respective institute and applicable university provisions. Part-time PhD candidates are not eligible for fellowship support at NID.
