The medical admission season for 2026 has moved into its next phase, with the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) releasing the schedule for round 2 of NEET UG counselling, even as several states wrap up their first round of seat allotment for MBBS and BDS courses.

MCC Round 2 Schedule

According to the timetable issued by MCC, participating institutes will verify the tentative seat matrix on September 1 and 2. Registration and fee payment for round 2 will open on September 3 and close on September 8 by 3 pm, with payments accepted till 6 pm the same day. Choice filling will run from September 3 to 9, with locking permitted between September 8 (4 pm) and September 9 (10 am). Seat allotment will be processed on September 9 and 10, with results declared on September 11. Candidates allotted seats will need to report to their colleges between September 12 and 18, after which institutes will verify joining data on September 19.

Round 2 will cover the 15% All India Quota (AIQ) seats along with 100% seats in deemed universities, central universities, AFMC, AIIMS institutions, and JIPMER campuses in Puducherry and Karaikal. MCC handles AIQ admissions, while the remaining 85% quota is managed separately by individual states.

State-Wise Round 1 Updates

Gujarat: The Admission Committee for Professional Under Graduate Medical Educational Courses (ACPUGMEC) has declared round 1 results, with more than 7,000 MBBS and BDS seats allotted. The state's top scorer has secured a government-quota seat at B J Medical College, Ahmedabad.

Maharashtra: The State CET Cell has published its round 1 final merit list covering over 35,000 eligible candidates. Choice filling for the Centralised Admission Process (CAP) round 1 is open until August 29, with the seat allotment outcome due on August 30.

Tamil Nadu: The Directorate of Medical Education has allotted 9,437 seats across government and management quota categories in round 1. Under the government quota, the closing rank for MBBS stood at 27,758.

Bihar: The Bihar Combined Entrance Competitive Examination Board has allotted 3,795 seats in round 1, comprising 3,574 MBBS and 221 BDS seats.

Punjab: Baba Farid University of Health Sciences has allotted 2,410 seats in round 1 counselling.

Kerala: The Commissioner for Entrance Examinations has published round 1 college-wise and category-wise closing ranks for MBBS and BDS admissions.

MCC (AIQ): Nationally, MCC's round 1 allotment list has benefited close to 30,000 candidates seeking All India Quota seats.

Seats and Selection Criteria

The National Medical Commission has made close to 1,36,939 seats available for the 2026 counselling cycle. Allotments across rounds are determined using candidates' All India Rank, the choices they fill, seat availability, and applicable reservation norms.

With round 1 largely concluded across most states and MCC's AIQ round 2 now scheduled, candidates awaiting further opportunities are advised to track official counselling websites — including mcc.nic.in for AIQ seats and their respective state medical counselling portals — for updates on registration, choice filling, and reporting deadlines in the coming weeks.
