The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) has made available the opening and closing ranks for Joint Seat Allocation (JoSAA) 2026 Round 5 on their official website at josaa.nic.in. These cutoff ranks were released on July 16, 2026, along with the results of the Round 5 seat allotment. Candidates who were part of Round 5 can now check the category-wise closing ranks for each participating institute. The opening and closing ranks cover all 138 institutes involved in this round. These include 23 Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in Bengaluru, 31 National Institutes of Technology (NITs), IIEST Shibpur, 26 Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), and 56 Other Government Funded Technical Institutes (GFTIs). You can access the cutoff data directly from the JoSAA applicant portal. The opening and closing ranks for open seats are based on the Common Rank List (CRL). The ranks for EWS, OBC-NCL, SC, and ST seats are based on their respective category lists. If a rank has a "P" suffix, it means it comes from the Preparatory Rank List.

What Happens After the Round 5 Allotment?

Round 5 is one of the final stages in the JoSAA counseling process. Candidates who have been allotted a seat must complete the online reporting process within the given time frame. This involves paying the required fees, uploading necessary documents, and confirming their allotted seat. During the reporting process, candidates have three options: they can accept the seat and freeze it, accept and float for a better option, or accept and slide within the same institute. Each decision can influence the next round of seat allotment.

What Are the Seat Acceptance and Withdrawal Charges?

Candidates need to pay the Seat Acceptance Fee (SAF) to confirm their allotted seat. The amount of the fee depends on the candidate’s category. The current fee structure is listed in the table below. A processing fee of Rs 5,000 is non-refundable in all cases.

CategorySeat Acceptance Fee
General, OBC-NCL, EWSRs 30,000
SC, ST, PwDRs 15,000

Candidates who decide to withdraw voluntarily before the final round may have additional charges as per JoSAA guidelines. The refund, if any, will be credited to the same account used for the SAF payment.

Action Plan for Candidates

  1. Log in to the JoSAA portal and check your Round 5 seat allotment status.
  2. Look up the opening and closing ranks for your preferred institute and program.
  3. Pay the Seat Acceptance Fee within the reporting window if you have been allotted a seat.
  4. Upload the necessary documents on the online reporting portal as soon as possible.
  5. Carefully select your response option: freeze, float, or slide.
  6. Keep a printed copy of the provisional seat allotment letter as a record.
