The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) has commenced the GATE 2027 registration process today. Eligible candidates can apply through the GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS) at gate2027.iitm.ac.in. The last date to submit the GATE 2027 application without a late fee is September 27, 2026. Candidates can submit applications with a late fee until October 5, 2026. GATE 2027 will be conducted jointly by IISc Bengaluru and the seven older IITs, with IIT Madras serving as the organising institute for this cycle. The examination will feature 30 test papers, including the newly introduced Robotics and Automation (RA) paper. Registration through DigiLocker is mandatory for all Indian nationals.

GATE 2027 Application Fee

The application fee applies per paper. Candidates opting for more than one paper must pay separately for each. The fee is non-refundable once paid.

Who Is Eligible for GATE 2027?

Candidates meeting the following criteria can apply:

  • Candidates currently studying in the third year or higher of an undergraduate degree in engineering, technology, architecture, science, commerce, arts or humanities.
  • Candidates who have already completed a government-approved degree in the eligible disciplines can also apply.
  • There is no minimum percentage or CGPA requirement for appearing in GATE 2027.
  • However, institutes accepting GATE scores for admission or recruitment may prescribe their own eligibility criteria and cut-offs.

How to Register for GATE 2027?

Candidates can complete the registration process by following these steps:

  1. Create or update a verified DigiLocker account before starting the application.
  2. Visit the official GATE 2027 portal at gate2027.iitm.ac.in.
  3. Access GOAPS and enter the required personal and academic details.
  4. Select the preferred GATE paper and examination cities.
  5. Upload the required photograph, signature and supporting documents.
  6. Pay the application fee through net banking, debit card, credit card or UPI.
  7. Submit the application form.
  8. Download and preserve the confirmation page for future reference.

What Is New in GATE 2027?

GATE 2027 introduces several changes for candidates:

  • A new Robotics and Automation (RA) paper has been introduced, taking the total number of test papers to 30.
  • The syllabus has been revised for several subjects.
  • Sectional codes for the XE, XH and XL papers have been updated.
  • Candidates should carefully review the latest syllabus before beginning their preparation.

  1. Visit gate2027.iitm.ac.in and read the official information brochure.
  2. Create or update the DigiLocker account with verified details.
  3. Finalise the preferred test paper and examination cities.
  4. Keep scanned copies of the photograph, signature and category certificate, if applicable, ready.
  5. Arrange the required application fee and submit the form by September 27, 2026 to avoid the late fee.
  6. Download and save the confirmation page after successfully submitting the application.
