The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) opened the online application window for the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) October 2026 session on September 11, 2026, at 5:00 PM. Eligible candidates can apply at the official website, natboard.edu.in, until September 25, 2026, till 11:55 PM. The exam will be held on October 31, 2026, in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode at centres across India, with the result expected by November 30, 2026.
No application will be accepted after the deadline closes, and candidates have been advised not to wait for the last day, since payment or technical issues close to the cut-off could cost them their chance to apply this cycle.

FMGE October 2026 Application Fee
The total application fee is INR 6,195, made up of:
- Examination fee: INR 5,250
- GST (18%): INR 945
Candidates should also budget for any additional payment-gateway charges depending on how they pay. (A small number of other reports have quoted a different fee figure for this cycle — confirm the exact amount against the official information bulletin before paying.)
FMGE October 2026 Exam Pattern
The exam has 300 multiple-choice questions, split into two parts of 150 questions each. There is no negative marking — candidates score only for correct answers, with nothing deducted for wrong ones. FMGE's usual qualifying benchmark is a minimum of 150 out of 300 marks, though candidates should verify this against the current information bulletin.
Edit Window and Correction Facility
Candidates who have paid the application fee can edit their forms between September 29 and 30, 2026. Name, nationality, email ID, Aadhaar number, mobile number and test city cannot be changed during this window.
Separately, if NBEMS finds a candidate's uploaded photograph, signature or thumb impression doesn't meet the required specifications, it will flag this by email or on the applicant dashboard. Affected candidates can re-upload corrected images between October 3 and October 19, 2026.
Admit Card, Test City and Result
- Test city intimation: October 20, 2026, ahead of the admit card.
- Admit card: Available for download from October 27, 2026. Candidates found ineligible before the exam will not be issued one.
- Result: Expected by November 30, 2026.
Number of Attempts and Pass Certificate
There is no cap on attempts for candidates who haven't yet cleared FMGE, but those who have already qualified cannot reappear. Candidates who pass FMGE October 2026 will need to complete NBEMS's prescribed process, including in-person verification, to receive their Pass Certificate; further details are expected after the result is out.
Why This Matters: FMGE Now Held Three Times a Year
NBEMS has moved FMGE to a thrice-yearly cycle instead of twice a year. The June 2026 session was held on June 28, 2026, making October 31 the second sitting of the year. NBEMS has also pushed its next scheduled sitting — originally set for January 9, 2027 — to later in January or February 2027, giving candidates who miss or don't clear the October exam another shot within a shorter gap than before.
FMGE is the mandatory qualifying test for Indian citizens and Overseas Citizens of India who completed their medical education abroad; clearing it is a prerequisite for medical registration from the National Medical Commission (NMC) to practise in India. (Detailed eligibility conditions — qualifying degree, category-wise rules — should be checked in the official information bulletin, as they weren't part of the original notice text used for this report.)
