CBSE’s Science Challenge 2026–27 school registration runs from 14 to 30 October 2026. The challenge is open to students of Classes 8 to 10 in CBSE-affiliated schools, and both rounds are free. The details are in CBSE circular Acad-67/2026, dated 13 October 2026.
Schedule (all dates 2026)
| Stage | Dates |
|---|---|
| Schools register for Round 1 | 14–30 October |
| School-level Round 1 | 2–13 November |
| Schools nominate students for Round 2 | 17–25 November |
| Computer-based Round 2 | Tentatively 30 November–4 December |
Round 2 will be held on one day within the tentative window. CBSE will announce that day separately.
How students can participate
Students cannot apply on their own. Schools log in to the Science Challenge portal with their LOC credentials and enter the number of students taking part in Round 1. Students should ask their science teacher about their school’s arrangements.
Round 1: format and selection
- CBSE makes the question paper and scoring criteria available on the portal on 2 November.
- Schools hold the test in class, with a maximum time of 60 minutes.
- The paper has MCQs, and both accuracy and speed count.
- Students who answer the most questions correctly are considered first. If scores tie, the faster student gets preference.
- Each school selects six students for Round 2, two each from Classes 8, 9 and 10.
Round 2
CBSE conducts Round 2 as a computer-based test. Only schools that completed Round 1 and registered students for Round 2 are eligible. All Round 2 participants get an online participation certificate, and the best performers get an appreciation certificate.
CBSE held the 2025–26 edition between April and August 2025, so this year’s schedule falls later in the year. cbseacademic
