UCEED OR NID?

UCEED stands for Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design or Integrated master of Technology / Bachelor of Science in design entrance examination of IIT into the national design school. I mean that entrance to NID would turn you into an aspirant for one of the best design school in India. Based on one’s career preferences this comparison between UCEED and NID will assist a design aspirant in arriving at the right decision.

Meaning of UCEED

UCEED stands for the Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design through which candidates can get admission in B.Des programs in Italy including himself and all the institutes which are affiliated IIT Bombay. It is for the students to get admission in B.Des program like in IIT Bombay IIT Guwahati IIT Hyderabad IIITDM Jabalpur etc any recognized design institute of India.

  • Purpose: Evaluate the candidate’s practices in design, ideas, eyesight, analytical skills and decision making.

Meaning of NID

This site has been accepted by very bright students for admit to bachelor of design (B. Des) and master of design at national institute of design at Ahamedabad, new Gandhinagar, Bengaluru and other centres.

  • Purpose: In order to assess the basic skills and abilities, the level of creativity, esthetic sensitivity, design and cultural knowledge of the candidates to continue education in the sphere of design as a profession.

Key Differences Between UCEED and NID

1.Eligibility Criteria

  • UCEED: Eligible to appear in UCEED, the candidate must have completed Class 12 (any stream). There is no upper age requirement to registering for UCEED, though the student can sit the test for two consecutive years maximum.
  • NID: It demands the candidate to clear Class 12 (any stream) of their educational qualification as well. While, the general category candidates’ age should not be beyond 20 years with age relaxation for reserved categories either.

2. Exam Pattern UCEED

The exam has two parts.

  • Part A (Computer-based): Multiple-choice questions (MCQs), numerical answer type (NAT), and multiple-select questions (MSQ). Part B (Offline): Drawing.
  • NID: NID entrance examination has two stages:
  • Prelims: Written test on design aptitude, logical reasoning, and creative skills. Mains: Studio test and personal interview.

4. Seat Availability UCEED:

Around 300-400 seats will be there across the institutes participating in UCEED. NID: Approximately 125-150 seats available for B. Des programs across campuses.

5. Focus Areas 

  • UCEED: These two attributes differ much: Emphasizes mechanical design knowledge, problem solving, and analytical thinking. Best suited for those students who want to prosper in the field of UX design, industrial design, or product design. 
  • NID: This focuses mainly on creativity, artistic skillsu, and cultural understanding; thus, ideal for its application to graphic design, animation, or textile design fields.
