The closing of the registration window for the Symbiosis Entrance Exam for Design (SEED) 2026 marks the transition from application logistics to intense exam focus. For thousands of B. Des hopefuls vying for a seat at the prestigious Symbiosis Institute of Design (SID), the next few weeks are crucial. All eyes are on the upcoming January dates for the mandatory entrance test. Candidates must be vigilant to ensure they do not miss any key deadlines in this final sprint.

  • Registration Concluded: The SEED 2026 application process is officially closed as of the extended deadline of December 28, 2025.
  • Admit Card Release: The Admit Cards for the Online Proctored Test will be available for download from the official SID website starting January 5, 2026. Downloading and printing this document is mandatory for appearing in the exam. Candidates must log in using their unique SEED ID and password to access it.
  • Official Mock Test: An essential official Mock Test is scheduled for January 7, 2026. Aspirants are strongly advised to attempt this to acclimatise to the online proctored format, the user interface, and the pressure of the 60-minute duration.
  • SEED 2026 Entrance Exam: The mandatory one-hour design aptitude test is scheduled for January 11, 2026. The exam will be conducted in multiple slots between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM.
  • Result & Shortlisting: The SEED 2026 results are expected on January 19, 2026, with the shortlist for the subsequent Portfolio Review and Personal Interaction (PRPI) round declared around January 23, 2026.

Mastering the SEED 2026 Exam Pattern and Strategy

The SEED examination is a Design Aptitude Test (DAT) that assesses a candidate’s innate creative, analytical, and problem-solving abilities, rather than rote knowledge. Understanding the format and syllabus is the foundation of a targeted preparation strategy.

  • Exam Structure at a Glance:
    • Mode: Online Proctored (PC/Laptop based exam)
    • Duration: Strictly 60 minutes
    • Total Questions: 60 Objective-Type Questions
    • Question Types: A mix of Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), Match the Columns, Fill-in-the-blanks, Image-based, and Comprehension-based queries.
    • Marking Scheme: +1 mark for every correct answer, with NO negative marking. This crucial detail encourages candidates to attempt all 60 questions.
  • Core Subject Areas for Focused Revision:
    • Visual Sensitivity and Judgement: Concentrate on principles of design (unity, proportion, rhythm, balance) and colour theory. Practice identifying common art movements and their characteristics.
    • Observational, Perceptual, and Reasoning Abilities: Focus on non-verbal reasoning, pattern recognition, spatial ability, and quick visual problem-solving. Practice with geometric forms and object views.
    • Art, Craft, Culture, Design, and Environment: Brush up on General Knowledge related to Indian and international art history, craft traditions, cultural symbols, and contemporary design trends like sustainability and eco-design.
    • Basic Knowledge of Logic of Science and Mathematics: Review fundamental concepts from your 10th-grade syllabus, focusing on practical application to design scenarios (e.g., symmetry, measurement, and basic geometry).
  • Preparation Tips for the Final Month:
    • Prioritize Mock Tests: Take multiple full-length mock tests to simulate exam conditions and significantly improve time management—one minute per question is a tight deadline.
    • Daily Sketching & Observation: Dedicate time daily to sketching everyday objects and practicing quick visualisation. Sharpen your observation skills by actively studying logos, product design, and visual compositions around you.
    • Avoid New Topics: In this final month, the focus should be on intensive revision and consolidating known strengths, rather than starting entirely new, complex topics.

The Road Beyond SEED: Portfolio and Career Prospects

Qualifying the SEED exam (which holds a 70% weightage in the overall selection criteria) is only the first step. Shortlisted candidates must then prepare for the Portfolio Review and Personal Interaction (PRPI) round, which typically happens in the final week of January and March. This stage carries the remaining 30% weightage and is often the deciding factor for admission to the Symbiosis Institute of Design.

  • The PRPI Blueprint:
    • Portfolio Review: Candidates must upload a digital portfolio (typically up to 15 slides, max 5 MB PDF) showcasing their best creative works. This includes sketches, mixed-media illustrations, digital art, photography, and 3D object concepts. Focus on demonstrating your thought process and variety in skills.
    • Personal Interaction (PI): This is a critical interview assessing your communication skills, enthusiasm for design, clarity of career goals, and awareness of current industry trends. Be ready to articulate why you chose design and why SID.
  • Exciting Career Opportunities after B. Des from SID:
    • A B. Des degree from a prestigious institute like SID opens doors to diverse and lucrative career paths in the rapidly evolving creative economy.
    • High-Demand Roles: Top job profiles include User Experience (UX) Designer, Product Designer, Graphic Designer, Fashion Communication Designer, and Animation Film Designer.
    • Industry Placement: SID has a strong placement record, with top recruiters including major technology, consulting, and retail firms like Infosys, Deloitte, Amazon, and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), with average packages often ranging from 6-8 LPA and the highest hitting up to 18-21 LPA.

Conclusion: The Final Leap

The conclusion of SEED 2026 registration signals a critical shift in momentum. For design aspirants, the next 30 days are a testament to preparation, aptitude, and creative hunger. With the admit card release and the online exam date locked in, consistent, simulated practice is now the single most impactful factor for success. Use the official mock test wisely, perfect your time management, and begin structuring your digital portfolio. Success in SEED and the PRPI round will secure your place in a top B. Des program and launch you into a thriving creative career. Don’t delay—your focused effort today defines your design future tomorrow.
