The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has announced its Online Short-Term Internship Programme (OSTI) for August 2025, a valuable opportunity for law students and graduates interested in human rights. Registrations for this two-week program are currently underway, and the final date to apply is August 12, 2025.
This paid internship, which will be held from August 11 to August 22, 2025, is an excellent chance for students to gain practical exposure to the functioning of the NHRC and delve into various human rights issues under the guidance of experts. The program is conducted in a full-time online format, running from 10:00 AM to 5:30 PM from Monday to Friday.
Eligibility and Application Process
The NHRC has a clear set of eligibility criteria for this prestigious internship. It is open to students from various disciplines, with a strong preference for those with a demonstrated interest in human rights.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Educational Qualification: Students in their 3rd year or higher of a five-year integrated law course, or in their 3rd/final year of a three-year LLB course. Post-graduate and research scholars from any stream are also eligible.
- Age Limit: The applicant should not be more than 28 years old as of July 1, 2025.
- Academic Performance: A minimum of 60% marks in Class XII and all subsequent semesters is a mandatory requirement.
- Previous Interns: Candidates who have previously completed any internship program with the NHRC are not eligible to apply.
How to Apply:
The application must be submitted exclusively through the online portal on the official NHRC website, nhrc.nic.in. The application process is meticulous and requires candidates to upload several documents.
- Online Application Form: Fill out the online form with all personal and academic details.
- Statement of Purpose (SOP): A 250-word write-up on "Statement of Purpose for joining NHRC Online Short-Term Internship" is required. This is a crucial part of the selection process, as students with a clear research potential in human rights are given preference.
- Required Documents: The application must include self-attested scanned copies of mark sheets from Class X onwards, including all semesters of the current course. A scanned letter of recommendation from the HOD/Dean/Principal in the prescribed format is also mandatory.
Incomplete applications or applications submitted after the deadline will be summarily rejected.
Internship Structure, Stipend, and Benefits
The two-week program is designed to be comprehensive and engaging, offering a blend of academic and practical learning.
- Course Structure: The internship will feature 40-45 sessions on diverse human rights topics, including gender justice, child rights, and anti-trafficking. Interns will get the opportunity to interact with senior government officials, including the Chairperson and Members of the NHRC.
- Hands-on Experience: The program includes group projects on human rights issues, a book review, and virtual field visits to institutions like police stations and NGOs, providing a unique insight into their operations.
- Stipend and Certificate: All interns who successfully complete the program, with mandatory attendance and timely submission of all assignments, will receive a stipend of ₹2,000. A certificate of participation will also be awarded, which is highly valued for professional and academic profiles.
