NEET PG 2025: Cutoff Drops Across Categories, MCC Counselling Schedule Expected Soon
The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has announced a significant drop in the NEET PG 2025 cutoff scores, a development that is expected to benefit a larger pool of aspirants. With the results declared, the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) is set to release its counselling schedule shortly.

In a major relief for thousands of postgraduate medical aspirants, the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has officially announced the NEET PG 2025 cutoff scores, which have shown a notable dip across all categories compared to previous years. This decline is attributed to a more challenging examination this year, particularly in the physics section, which has led to a general depression in overall scores and, consequently, a more accessible cutoff. This development is expected to open up opportunities for a greater number of candidates to participate in the upcoming counselling process.
The qualifying cutoffs, released along with the results, are as follows:
- General/EWS: 50th percentile, corresponding to a score of 276 out of 800.
- General PwBD: 45th percentile, with a score of 255.
- SC/ST/OBC (including PwBD): 40th percentile, with a score of 235.
This year's cutoff marks a return to the pre-pandemic levels of exam difficulty, which is a welcome change for many in the medical education community. For aspirants, a lower cutoff means a higher probability of making it to the merit list, thereby increasing their chances of securing a postgraduate seat.

What's Next? The MCC Counselling Schedule
With the results declared and cutoffs announced, the next crucial step for qualified candidates is the counselling process. The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) is tasked with conducting the centralized counselling for 50% All India Quota (AIQ) seats, as well as for all seats in Deemed/Central Universities, ESIC, and AFMS institutions.
While the official schedule is yet to be released, it is highly anticipated that the counselling will commence shortly. The process typically involves several key stages, and aspirants must prepare for each one meticulously to ensure a smooth admission. The stages include:
- Online Registration and Fee Payment: This is a mandatory first step on the official MCC website.
- Choice Filling and Locking: Candidates will list their preferred colleges and specializations in order of priority. This is the most critical part of the counselling, as it determines seat allocation.
- Seat Allotment Processing: The MCC will process the choices based on a candidate's rank, available seats, and reservation criteria.
- Seat Allotment Result: The results for each round will be published on the official website.
- Reporting to the Allotted College: Candidates must report to their assigned college with all original documents and pay the admission fees to confirm their seat.
The MCC is expected to conduct counselling in multiple rounds, including a mop-up round and an online stray vacancy round, to fill all available seats. Aspiring doctors are advised to prepare all their documents, including their NEET PG 2025 scorecard (available for download from August 29), MBBS degree certificates, internship completion certificates, and registration certificates, to avoid any last-minute hurdles.
