 The Rigorous Two-Phase Selection Process

The admission to MITID is based on a comprehensive, two-phase evaluation designed to assess not just academic scores but also the innate design aptitude and creative potential of the candidate. The evaluation process is designed to filter candidates who possess the right blend of analytical and creative skills essential for a challenging design career.

  • Phase I: MIT Design Entrance Test (MIT DET)
    • This is the initial written examination that serves as the primary screening tool.
    • It evaluates core competencies such as Design Inclination & General Awareness, Analytical & Logical Reasoning, and Creative Ability & Observation.
    • The test is typically a three-hour written examination, consisting of both Objective (MCQ/Computer-Based) and Subjective (Drawing/Sketching/Descriptive) questions.
    • Only candidates who clear the predetermined cut-off in the DET are shortlisted for the next phase.
  • Phase II: Studio Test and Personal Interview (PI)
    • This mandatory round is typically conducted at the MITID campus in Pune.
    • Studio Test: A hands-on, practical component that assesses rapid ideation, material handling, sketching skills, and on-the-spot problem-solving abilities.
    • Personal Interview & Portfolio Review: The PI assesses the candidate's passion, communication skills, career goals, and general awareness of the design industry. Candidates must also present a curated Portfolio of their best creative work, which showcases their range and technical proficiency.

 Eligibility and Program Highlights

MITID offers a diverse range of specializations for both undergraduate and postgraduate aspirants, attracting talent from various academic streams.

  • B.Des Programs:
    • Eligibility: Candidates must have successfully passed or appeared for the 10+2 (HSC) examination or its equivalent from any recognized stream (Science, Commerce, or Arts) with English subject.
    • Specializations: Industrial Design (Product, Transportation, UX, etc.), Communication Design (Graphic, Animation, Film & Video, etc.), and Fashion Design.
  • M.Des Programs:
    • Eligibility: Candidates require an Undergraduate Degree (Bachelor's Degree or equivalent) in a relevant discipline, which is specific to the chosen specialization (e.g., Engineering, Architecture, Fine Arts, etc.).
    • Requirements: M.Des applicants must additionally submit a detailed Portfolio and a Statement of Purpose (SOP) outlining their motivation and career aspirations in design.
    • Specializations: Product Design, Transportation Design, Interior Space & Furniture Design, Graphic Design, User Experience Design, and more.

The institution's focus on a multi-disciplinary approach, innovation, and global collaborations prepares students to become future-ready design professionals.

The final merit list for admission is calculated based on a composite score derived from performance in the DET, the Studio Test, and the Personal Interview. This holistic approach ensures that candidates who demonstrate a true aptitude and passion for design are selected. Given the strict nature of the deadlines and the multi-stage process, aspirants must meticulously plan their preparation and application strategy. Don't wait until the last minute; visit the official MITID DET website today to register and take the decisive step toward your career in design.
