In a significant update for engineering aspirants in Maharashtra, the State Common Entrance Test Cell has announced the release schedule for the MHT CET BTech CAP Round 2 counselling. While the provisional allotment list is slated to be declared on August 11, 2025, the crucial first step of the round—the provisional vacant seat list—is being published today, August 4, 2025. This list is a vital resource for all candidates participating in the second round of counselling as it provides a clear picture of the seats available across various colleges and courses, helping them to make informed decisions for the option entry process.

The release of the vacant seat list marks the beginning of the next phase for all candidates who either did not receive a seat in CAP Round 1, were not satisfied with their first-round allotment and opted for betterment, or are participating for the first time. The information provided in this list will directly influence the choices they make during the option form filling, which is scheduled to commence tomorrow, August 5. With the limited seats available in the second round, understanding the vacancy list becomes a critical exercise to maximize the chances of securing a preferred college and branch.

Understanding the MHT CET CAP Round 2 Process

The Centralised Admission Process (CAP) for MHT CET is a structured process designed to allocate seats based on merit and the preferences filled by candidates. For Round 2, the process will unfold as follows:

  1. Display of Provisional Vacant Seats (Today): The State CET Cell is releasing a PDF containing a college-wise and branch-wise breakdown of all the seats that were not filled in CAP Round 1. This list is available on the official website, fe2025.mahacet.org. Candidates are strongly advised to analyze this list carefully before filling out their options.
  2. Option Form Submission (August 5 - 7): Starting tomorrow, the online portal for submitting and confirming the option form for CAP Round 2 will be activated. Candidates who wish to participate in this round must log in with their credentials, fill in their choices of colleges and branches, and then confirm their form. It's important to remember that the seat allotment is based on these preferences and the candidate's merit rank.
  3. Provisional Allotment Result (August 11): The provisional seat allotment result for CAP Round 2 will be released on August 11. Candidates can check their status by logging into their account on the official portal.
  4. Seat Acceptance and Reporting (August 12 - 14): Once the result is out, candidates who are allotted a seat for the first time in Round 2 will have to make a choice. If they are satisfied with the allotment, they must accept the seat, pay the seat acceptance fee, and report to the allotted institute for document verification and admission confirmation. The window for this is from August 12 to 14.

The "Freeze" and "Float" Options

The counselling process offers candidates two key options after seat allotment, which are vital to understand:

  • Freeze: This option is for candidates who are completely satisfied with the seat allotted to them in CAP Round 2. By choosing "Freeze," they accept the seat as their final choice, and they will not be eligible to participate in any subsequent rounds of counselling. Such candidates must proceed directly with the online fee payment and physical reporting at the allotted institute.
  • Betterment (Float/Slide): This option is for candidates who have been allotted a seat but wish to be considered for a better preference in the subsequent round. They can choose this option, but they must still accept the current seat and pay the seat acceptance fee. Failure to do so will result in the forfeiture of their current seat as well as their eligibility for future rounds.

Documents Required for Admission

All candidates who are allotted a seat and decide to accept it must report to their respective colleges within the given deadline. The physical reporting at the college is the final step to confirm admission. Candidates must carry the following documents in original, along with a set of photocopies, for verification:

  • MHT CET 2025 Provisional Allotment Letter
  • MHT CET 2025 Scorecard
  • MHT CET 2025 Application Form
  • Class 10th and 12th Mark Sheets
  • Proof of Date of Birth (Birth Certificate or Class 10th Certificate)
  • Domicile Certificate of Maharashtra (if applicable)
  • Caste Certificate, Validity Certificate, and Non-Creamy Layer Certificate (if applicable)
  • EWS Certificate (if applicable)
  • Aadhar Card
  • Passport-size photographs

Aspirants are strongly encouraged to use the next few days judiciously. The vacant seat list, released today, is the roadmap for a successful CAP Round 2. Carefully examining the data and filling out the option form with a well-thought-out strategy is the key to securing a desired seat in one of Maharashtra's top engineering colleges.
