This joint Ph.D. programme is designed for a four-year doctoral journey, blending academic rigour with international exposure. A major advantage for all admitted Ph.D. scholars is the co-supervision by a faculty member from Virginia Tech, alongside a mentor from Mahindra University, ensuring exposure to global research standards. Students will also gain hands-on research experience through state-of-the-art facilities, including AI/ML laboratories, media labs, and design thinking studios. Eligibility and Selection Process
Candidates must typically hold a Master's degree (or an equivalent PG Diploma) in a relevant discipline with a minimum of 60% marks or a CGPA of 6.00/10 on a 10-point scale. Notably, B.Tech. or equivalent degree holders with a high CGPA (usually 7.00/10 or above) and a valid GATE/National examination score may also be eligible. The requirement of a GATE/National examination score may be waived for graduates of Centrally Funded Technical Institutes (CFTIs) with B.Tech./B.E. and a CGPA of 8.00 or above, or M.Sc. graduates from IITs with a CGPA of 8.00 or above.
The admission process is conducted as per UGC guidelines and involves a multi-stage evaluation:
- Application Submission
- Assessment of UGC-NET Score or a Written Test conducted by Mahindra University (60% weightage). Candidates who are UGC-NET qualified automatically receive weightage but may opt to take the written test to improve their score.
- Interview (40% weightage).
All full-time Ph.D. scholars admitted to the programme are eligible for a research assistantship (stipend) of up to INR 30,000 per month and free boarding and lodging, in exchange for mandatory Teaching Assistant (TA) duties.
