: The LSAT—India exam has been discontinued. Law aspirants should now focus on alternatives like CLAT and AILET as colleges change their admission criteria for the 2025-26 academic year.

Contrary to recent reports, the Law School Admission Council (LSAC) has officially discontinued the LSAT—India exam. There will be no registration for a January 2025 session or any subsequent sessions of the test. This marks a significant change in the legal education landscape, and all aspiring law students who were preparing for the exam must now pivot to alternative admission tests.

The last session of the LSAT—India exam was held in May 2025. This decision to discontinue the exam was part of a broader business strategy by the LSAC. Consequently, law schools that previously accepted LSAT—India scores for admission to their 3-year LLB and 5-year Integrated LLB programs are now either conducting their own entrance tests or relying on other national-level exam scores. For instance, some colleges are now accepting the Law National Aptitude Test (LNAT) score for their admissions.

What Does This Mean for Law Aspirants?

With the LSAT—India exam no longer an option, aspirants must shift their focus to other key entrance exams and their respective registration timelines. The admission process for the 2025-26 academic year is well underway, and relying on a discontinued exam could jeopardize an applicant's chances.

Candidates should now prioritize the following:

  1. CLAT 2026: The application window for the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) 2026 has already opened. This exam is the gateway to all National Law Universities and is now the most important test for aspirants.
  2. AILET 2026: Registration for the All India Law Entrance Test (AILET) for NLU Delhi is also set to begin this month.
  3. Other University-Specific Exams: Many private universities, such as Symbiosis International University (SLAT) and others, have their own entrance exams. Aspirants should check the official websites of their preferred institutions to understand their updated admission criteria.

Next Steps for Aspirants:

Given this development, the most crucial step for any law aspirant is to research and verify the updated admission requirements of their target colleges. It is no longer sufficient to prepare for a single exam. A strategic approach would involve preparing for CLAT and AILET while simultaneously checking the admission portals of other universities to identify any changes in their accepted entrance exams.

Aspirants are strongly advised to visit the official websites of their desired law schools to confirm which scores they will be accepting for the upcoming admission cycle and to stay updated on all important deadlines.
