IIT Delhi’s New B.Tech. in Design Begins Admissions; Requires JEE Advanced and UCEED Scores
IIT Delhi begins admissions for its new B.Tech. in Design program. A unique admission process requires candidates to have qualified in both JEE Advanced and UCEED.

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi has officially initiated the admission process for its newly launched B.Tech. in Design program for the 2025-26 academic year. This four-year undergraduate course is a significant addition to the institute’s offerings, combining engineering with design thinking, and it comes with a unique and stringent admission criterion.
For the first time, admission to an IIT B.Tech program will require candidates to have successfully qualified in two separate national-level entrance exams. Aspirants for the B.Tech. in Design must have a valid score in both the JEE Advanced and the Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design (UCEED). The final merit list and seat allotment will be based primarily on the candidate's JEE Advanced ranking, but having a qualifying UCEED score is a mandatory prerequisite.
Key Details on the Admission Process:
This new program, with a limited intake of just 20 students in its inaugural batch, is designed for candidates with both technical proficiency and creative aptitude. The admission process for this program will be conducted through the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) counselling, the same portal used for all other IITs.
- Eligibility: To be eligible, a candidate must have cleared the Class 12 or equivalent exam with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, and have secured a rank in JEE Advanced 2025. Additionally, they must have qualified in the UCEED 2025 exam.
- Curriculum: The program will offer a transdisciplinary curriculum, with approximately half of the coursework focusing on core design principles and the remainder covering subjects from other departments at IIT Delhi, such as engineering, humanities, and management.
- Counselling: With the JoSAA counselling for this year already underway, eligible candidates must ensure they have selected the B.Tech. in Design program in their choice-filling forms.
The introduction of this program is a clear signal of the growing importance of design in technology and engineering. Aspiring students are encouraged to monitor the official IIT Delhi and JoSAA websites for final updates on the seat allotment and admission schedule.
