In a significant development for medical aspirants, a group of doctors with disabilities has moved the National Medical Commission (NMC) and the Union Health Ministry, urging them to immediately release an inclusive Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for the upcoming NEET PG 2025 counselling. This action comes after the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) declared the NEET PG results on August 19, but no official guidelines for disabled candidates have been issued, causing widespread concern and uncertainty.

The doctors, through their representative body, have highlighted several key demands that are crucial for ensuring a fair and transparent admission process:

  • Release Inclusive SOPs: They have called for new guidelines that shift the assessment of disabilities from outdated percentage-based criteria to a functional competency-based test, as previously directed by the Supreme Court. This is aimed at preventing scenarios where candidates with conditions like dyslexia are subjected to assessments designed for children.
  • Expand Assessment Centres: With only 16 designated centres across 11 states, candidates from remote areas are forced to travel long distances for their medical assessments. The appeal calls for the establishment of at least one designated board in every state and union territory before counselling begins.
  • Training and Transparency: The group has also demanded that the NMC release the training schedule for the medical boards and publish the names of doctors with disabilities appointed to them, ensuring adherence to Supreme Court mandates.

The delay in issuing these crucial guidelines could create significant obstacles for deserving candidates with disabilities. Aspirants are advised to stay updated through official channels as they prepare for the counselling process, which is slated to begin in September.
