The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) is set to open the registration portal for Round 2 of the NEET UG Counselling 2025 today, August 4, 2025. This is a pivotal moment for thousands of medical and dental aspirants across the country who are still seeking to secure a seat in MBBS and BDS programs under the All India Quota (AIQ), as well as in deemed, central universities, ESIC, and AIIMS. With Round 1 of counselling recently concluded, Round 2 offers a fresh opportunity for candidates to participate, upgrade their choices, and claim vacant seats.

The Round 2 counselling process, which will be entirely online, is an essential stage for several categories of candidates. This includes those who were not allotted a seat in Round 1, those who were allotted a seat but exited the process with forfeiture of their security deposit, and candidates who had a seat in Round 1 but wish to upgrade to a better college or course. The process requires careful attention to detail and adherence to a strict timeline to ensure a successful outcome. The official schedule released by the MCC confirms that the registration and payment window for Round 2 will be a time-bound affair, necessitating prompt action from all eligible candidates.

Key Phases and Timeline for Round 2

The MCC has outlined a clear schedule for the Round 2 counselling process. Aspirants should note these dates meticulously to avoid missing any deadlines, which could lead to forfeiture of their security deposit and their chance at a seat. The key phases are as follows:

  • Registration and Payment: The registration and payment window for Round 2 is active from today, August 4. This is a one-time registration process for those who have not registered in Round 1 or those who have exited with forfeiture of their security deposit. The registration fee is non-refundable, while a security deposit is also required, which is refundable to candidates who are not allotted a seat. For general candidates, the registration fee is ₹1,000 for AIQ seats and Central Universities, and ₹5,000 for deemed universities. The refundable security deposit is ₹10,000 and ₹2,00,000 respectively.
  • Choice Filling and Locking: After registration, candidates must proceed with choice filling and locking. This is arguably the most crucial part of the counselling process. Candidates can fill in their preferred colleges and courses from the seat matrix released by the MCC. It is highly recommended to fill in as many choices as possible, arranging them in order of preference. The choice locking window is scheduled to open after the choice filling period, where candidates must finalize their preferences. Failure to lock choices manually will result in the choices being auto-locked by the system at the deadline.
  • Seat Allotment Process: Following the choice locking period, the MCC will process the seat allotment based on the candidates' NEET scores, ranks, filled choices, and the availability of seats. The results for Round 2 allotment will be published on the official MCC website.

Who is Eligible to Participate in Round 2?

The eligibility rules for Round 2 are comprehensive and cater to various candidate situations from Round 1:

  1. Fresh Registrations: Candidates who did not register in Round 1 are eligible to do so in Round 2.
  2. No Seat in Round 1: Candidates who registered and filled choices in Round 1 but were not allotted any seat are eligible to participate in Round 2 without fresh registration. However, they must fill new choices.
  3. Round 1 Seat but Free Exit: Candidates who were allotted a seat in Round 1 but opted for a "free exit" without reporting to the college are eligible to participate in Round 2 by filling new choices.
  4. Upgradation: Candidates who were allotted a seat in Round 1, reported to the college, but wish to upgrade their college/course, can participate in Round 2. If they are allotted a better seat, their previous seat will be automatically forfeited.
  5. Exited with Forfeiture: Candidates who were allotted a seat in Round 1 but did not report and hence forfeited their security deposit, are eligible to register again in Round 2 by paying a fresh fee and security deposit.

Documents Required for Reporting

Candidates who are allotted a seat in Round 2 must report to their respective colleges with a specific set of documents for verification. Failure to produce these documents in their original form will lead to the cancellation of the admission. The list includes the NEET UG 2025 Admit Card and Scorecard, Class 10th and 12th certificates, a government-issued photo ID, and category certificates (if applicable).

The commencement of Round 2 registration today is a critical juncture for aspirants. A meticulous approach to registration, choice filling, and subsequent reporting will be key to a successful admission into their desired medical program.
