Karnataka Medical Admissions Get Major Boost with Addition of 650 New MBBS Seats
The Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) is set to include a total of 650 newly approved MBBS seats in its counselling process. This significant increase, a combination of NMC approvals and a High Court directive, is a major development for NEET UG 2025 aspirants.

In a landmark decision that promises to reshape the medical admissions landscape in the state, NEET UG 2025 aspirants in Karnataka have received a huge boost with the addition of a total of 650 new MBBS seats. This substantial increase is a result of recent approvals from the National Medical Commission (NMC) and a directive from the Karnataka High Court.
According to a recent communication from the NMC, a total of 450 additional MBBS seats have been approved for eight government medical colleges and one private medical college in Karnataka for the academic year 2025-26. This move is part of the NMC's efforts to increase the availability of medical education seats across the country and is expected to have a positive impact on the state's NEET UG cut-offs.
High Court Adds to the Tally
Adding to this positive news, the Karnataka High Court has stayed a previous NMC order, directing the inclusion of an additional 200 MBBS seats from the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC), Belagavi, into the ongoing seat matrix. The court’s decision has instructed the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) to include 188 seats under the All India Quota and the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) to include 12 seats under the State Quota.
Aspirants are advised that KEA is expected to update the seat matrix on its official website, cetonline.karnataka.gov.in, before the commencement of the second round of counselling. The new seats will be available for choice-filling and allotment in this upcoming round. This development is expected to provide relief to many candidates who narrowly missed out on a seat in the first round.
Candidates are urged to stay vigilant and regularly check the KEA portal for the updated seat matrix and the detailed schedule for Round 2 of counselling. For regular updates, follow Only Education News.
